Comments after filming PE lessons with EBS.

Thank God!

 

It was a great honor to have the chance to film PE lessons with the Korean official education TV broadcasting system. EBS(Educational Broadcasting System) I work with is the only public enterprise and channel only for educational purposes in Korea. I was also one of the beneficiaries of this channel's educational help and support when I was in middle and high school, especially for Korean history subjects.

 

This opportunity came from one of my college seniors who has once worked with EBS, asking me to create wonderful PE lessons together for students who cannot access in-person PE lessons at school. There was no single reason I disagreed with what he asked since we all knew that there are so many insufficient PE lessons under the lockdown and social-distance regulations. Even though I only took part 5 of the big project with about 150 lessons and 30 talented teachers across the country, it was an invaluable experience. What I enabled to do was organizing content within a designated activity, circuit training, and shooting 5 lessons with 4 students. EBS professional directing team helped me make great classes with expensive cameras, including a high-speed camera used in the film.

 

My script was written for 5 deliberate days and polished continuously because I had to memorize all the lines in order to keep away from any halts or pronunciation problems between explanations. During the preparation time, I knew that it could be even worse if I will just face the shooting like this, which makes me bring a big screen prompter which did not be prepared by EBS. The prompter I brought definitely helped me, as a result. It relieved me emotionally and kept me calm albeit with some mistakes. Somewhere along the line in the middle of filming, however, I started to move in a negative direction because of my reliever. I began to rely on the prompter.

 

Here is what I have learned through this experience. Everything has double sides that would help you on one side and on the other side it could ruin your performance. In my context, my prompter was a double-edged sword. I was under big pressure because I thought it is a great honor and also be recorded forever in the broadcasting system. That was the reason why I tried to find a supporter, which gradually entangled me in there. I have to comment that there was not big trouble with using a prompter en route. I just want to record in here what I realized through my behavior keeping watching the screen as time goes by.

 

Depending on other things instead of your competency could be detrimental however good supports are you have. The first thing you have to keep in mind and believe should be yourself. Prepare what you have to do as possible as you can and improve your ability for it. Straightforwardness toward myself is necessary for every moment. Do not try to escape the difficult moment without enough endeavors. If you started to rely on something other than something inside of you, it could end up ruin your work.

 

Thank God again for having a great experience like this. My lessons will be edited by the producer soon. Participation in the editing procedure checking whether some subtitles or captions should be located like this or not will be also wonderful. I will be going to leave what I will learn there again.
