1. Who am I: My teaching experiences taught me the importance of affective aspects in education. As a researcher, I came to study under a framework of social and emotional learning.
2. What and why in PE?: The general definition of SEL can be clarified with a comparison to character and moral education. SEL is a more student-centered skill development approach. Three approaches are: teaching skills improving classroom climate, and influencing students' mindsets. But, Why in PE? 1) the nature of PE has copious opportunities for holistic education 2) affective-reflective response theory supports the importance of teaching SEL in PE. Positive affective responses guide participation in physical activities.
3. Current project: self-compassion. Conflict resolution and restorative practice. and curriculum development.
4. Future direction: SEL will continue to be important in physical education.
