  • Final reflective essay exam for ultimate
    Teaching class at UNCG/SP 23 KIN 110 2023. 4. 11. 22:33

Our final exam is to look back on your own learning process and record your thoughts. Learning is completed with self-reflection.

Technically, KIN110 course had three sections: 1) skills development, 2) game and self/peer assessment, and 3) group teaching. Each session had a different but sequential objective and rationale. When it comes to learning a new sport or physical activity, having a set of skills to some degree was essential at first. We ran 3 laps and practiced plyometric movements every class, and then learned various throwing/movement skills such as pancake/crap catch, backhand, forehand, hammer, hyzer/enhyzer, air bounce, pivot, cut, and force. The evaluation for this session was structured to finish a certain set of tasks within a predetermined time frame.

Second session was to learn game rules and enjoy games. We learned basic rules like court changes, traveling, stalling (10 seconds), no double-team, and in/out. The most significant part of the rule was the spirit of the game which is the heart of the Ultimate but could, more often than not, end up being controversial. Along with taking an online rule test, you made your own assessment rubric to evaluate yourself and be assessed based on your standards. As opposed to the first session, you had to think about what important component is in Ultimate and what parts I am good or care for.

The last part was to teach peers in a group. Teaching is another level requiring numerous considerations. However good and competent a player is in knowing rules and performing skills, it doesn't mean teaching well. A good teacher thinks about teaching rationales behind movements, constructing tasks by stages, and considering students in various ways. From this session, I hoped you had an opportunity to think about the structure of Ultimate and see this game from one step behind.

In short, we covered all the fundamental parts of Ultimate. Now, it's time to review your experiences. What kinds of experiences have you had? What thoughts have come to your mind? How do you expect that your learning will benefit your future? Ask those reflective questions to yourself and leave your essay here. By finishing this task, you will become to say that 'I learned Ultimate.' :)

Appreciate your effort and patience throughout the semester. Unlike my intentions, my attitude and language might have had you confused or puzzled. Unlike your expectations, this course might have asked more time and effort. Thankfully, you all presented a wonderful attitude and respect our class. Thank you so much for being my students this semester. It was such a great time to be with you. I hope this class was an enjoyable and helpful course in your semester. Please say hello when we meet in the future. See you on campus.
